Sunday night was a fun and busy night with Halloween and the day before NaNoWriMo kickoff. In true procrastination fashion, I waited until damn near the end of the day to pick a project to pursue. I had a few ideas bouncing around on my list that I was interested in but there was one I was really stuck on and couldn’t get past. I decided to do this the most adult-like and reasonable way I know. I made an online wheel and added all these ideas (writing and editing alike) and hit spin.
Turns out the wheel was just as crazy as I am because it landed on the one that was stuck in my head. This year for November’s NaNoWriMo, I will be doing the full re-write of the Magic story I started in 2019. The first full rough draft was my first time finishing a full story. Let’s be honest though, it was absolute trash! I love that I did it. I love that I finished it. I loved the learning experience and the chance to prove I can finish one. I hated the story and what happened to this idea from head to paper. Once I began reading it to edit it, I quickly saw some major glaring issues with what had happened.
When I won the first time in 2019, I had never finished a story before. I was also a pantser, which just means that I didn’t plan, prep, plot or do anything to have a game plan for the story. Now, two years later, I have found a method that works for me but involves making an outline that follows the Save the Cat! Method. Today is day one, and I am proud to say I put in my word count (slightly over goal!) and that it was made developing the outline for the re-write. I sent it off to someone I trust to give honest feedback and got back the green light.
This version will be nothing like the original, but based on the outline to this story, I absolutely cannot wait to see how this version unfolds (even though I know already because… outline).
