March Update: New Job, New Skills

Mon Mar 08 2021

For the last several years, I have done the same job at my company. While I have not performed the duties of my job titles much during that time, I was on an ongoing project over that time. I was ready for a change up and late last year, an opportunity presented itself and I applied. It was an internal posting and I figured, "why not?" I got the job offer and waited a few months to start.

My departure meant that someone needed to be hired to fill my position and I needed to train a member of my team to take over my project work. There was another bump in the road for my old team that slowed down my transition but, finally within the last two weeks, I have started to learn the ropes of my new role.

I came into this role with minimal experience but I bring the knowledge of my former role with me. It's hopefully beneficial all around to bring some of my old team with me to the new team while being a mostly blank slate to learn all the new information for this new role.

Overall, the thing I least looking forward to is missing my partner and cats during the day. Being back in the office means that the random fuzz butt isn't jumping on my desk to headbutt me in the hand and remind me look away from the screens periodically for the health of my eyes. It also means I can't just crack a good inside joke and have someone at my side to listen and laugh with me.

Being back in the office, however, gives me a chance to move more and get some fresh air, sunlight (even if it's evil to me), and talk to other people (which I hear is healthy, or something?). It's been a wild two weeks already and I look forward to learning more.

Of course, a new job and lots of new knowledge also means that I am slowing down on writing for now. Next month is Camp NaNoWriMo and I am still deciding if I will be deep diving into more writing or pulling back to edit the second manuscript. My partner is biased and wants the editing to start so they can beta read, but I still have time to decide. I will announce that as it gets closer.

Anywho, keep reading and thank you!
