Do You Even Lift, Sasha?

Fri Feb 12 2021

I recently made a series of lists of things I want to learn, my interesting life experiences, things I am good at, and things that interest me. Among these said lists was the desire to begin weight lifting again. I'm a mom to a very energetic and adorable little toddler who pushes me to the brink of exhaustion daily. Said toddler also still enjoys being picked up and tossed about or swung or whatever she can talk an adult into doing. I have been on my hands and knees letting her climb over and under me like a jungle gym. I have been mommy pony. I have ever used her to do leg presses and hip lifts with her on my stomach. But the fact still remains, I get exhausted too quickly from the short time we play together after work and before bed.

The other reality I now face is that I will be starting a new position sometime soon. It is a position that will require me to run back and forth between a parts room and my desk to get equipment to assemble for people as well as carrying around heavy equipment and setting up said equipment. With that known, I am really out of shape for the physical labor portion of this new job. So, I have decided to throw laziness to the wind and say fuck it and lift. Some people really enjoy the thrill of running outdoors with the dastardly sun beating down on them. Others enjoy yoga or Pilates. Some people even love attending dance classes and other various group torture sessions. I am one of the types of humans that enjoys lifting weights. I will still get in some cardio, my little chest thumper deserves a little of that shit, but I want to zero in on that sweet sweet lift progress again.

That said, my biceps are on fire today and I wish to lay in a hot water tub and rest. Sadly, I do not have a hot water tub so I will just grumble and groan as I move through the day. Yesterday was arm day with cardio so I did double sets of bicep curls, side arm raises, shoulder presses and wrapped up the session with some deadlifts on an empty bar to practice my form again. I am pretty proud that I found the motivation to turn around from the treadmill after doing two sets of squats at 10 minute intervals and lift up some dumbbells and start lifting at random. My goal this month is to lift weights twice a week for the rest of this month and build up some stamina again. That little toddler of mine deserves a mom that can keep up. Here's looking at you half rack.
